THE VISION

At Home in an Icon

In offering 14 exceptional homes within its premises, The Surrey revives a tradition established in 1926, when it first opened as a residence hotel. Today, a new generation of residences recall the glamor of that time—and await new stories to be told.

A Design Icon, Reborn

The Surrey Residences are introduced as part of the landmark restoration of this iconic New York institution. The hotel was acquired by the Reuben Brothers in 2020, and has been expertly reimagined in partnership with the greatest minds in design and hospitality. The elegant residential interiors have been designed by BKSK Architects, with Martin Brudnizki overseeing the richly layered hotel interiors below.

A Site of Significance

The bright future of The Surrey is reflected in its storied past. In the 1920s, the Upper East Side experienced a luxury building boom, and The Surrey, designed by the prolific partners Schwartz & Gross—the architects of many of Manhattan’s best loved buildings—set the tone for an instantly chic neighborhood. The hotel’s handsome Art Deco design amidst tree-lined avenues, became a bellwether of taste and excellence for a newly arrived New York elite.

A Cultural Enclave

Drawn by The Surrey’s coupling of coziness with grandeur, many icons of the stage, screen, and government chose to reside here, cementing the hotel’s landmark status as a discreet sanctuary for a prestigious clientele.

Life in a Landmark

As The Surrey once again opens its doors, its 14 elegant residences in the heart of one of the world’s most famous hotels offer an unprecedented opportunity to live in a landmark, and make this beautifully crafted space the backdrop for life on the Upper East side.

Glamorous Modern Living

When The Surrey was first opened, it was admired for the discreet touches of elegance built into its architecture, announced by its entry set with marble, limestone, and terracotta. As part of the hotel’s renaissance these have been restored, and echoes of their materiality are seen throughout the private residences, designed by BKSK Architects. Set within the upper reaches of the landmarked hotel, the residential layouts intentionally recollect a prewar flow of formal rooms, with a contemporary graciousness proportioned for entertaining. Here, fine marbles and European chevron floors nod to the building’s use of exquisite materials, while also offering the best of exquisitely curated modern living.

Unmatched Hospitality

Service will be provided by the inimitable Corinthia Hotels, marking the group’s first property in the United States. Residents will also benefit from dining and a private members’ club provided by the vibrant and convivial Casa Tua, as the treasured Miami enclave arrives in New York for the first time. Together this remarkable team have restored this grande dame of New York hospitality, to make it hum with life and possibility for a new generation of era-definers.
